When creating a piece it is easy to only think about the content, images and colors being used. And don’t get us wrong – all of these aspect are vital. If you are not focusing on these then we have a huge problem on our hands. However, there are so many other nuances and effects that can really add to your piece. But is is kind of hard to think about what these effects might be if you don’t know what they here. So here is a list of printing effects that Documedia can add to help really bring some oomph to your next invitation, business card or marketing piece.
Scented inks – yes you read that right. More than any other sense, the sense of smell is most closely linked with memory. And we’ve all had that, where you smell something again and it takes you right back to that moment. If I ever get my hands on some Mr. Sketch markers I’m like a child again deeply breathing in the greatest artificial cherry scent I’ve ever smelled. Scented inks were created to make a unique experience so that when they open that piece they are instantly transported back to grandma’s kitchen or a childhood picnic.
Embossing vs. Debossing – These are very similar but create different result. Both are created using a set of metal plates in which a paper is put in in and plates are pushed together. Embossing causes the paper to have a raised impression which debossing causes the paper to have depressed impression.
Foil – This is an added shiny texture that can make up either text or a design on your piece. It does give it a very elegant and sophisticated look while also allowing your piece to stand out because it now actually shines.
Die/ Laser Cutting – with this technique that actually cuts the piece to a specified shape or cuts shapes out of the piece. With this technique you are able to make your business card really stand out or sent out your wedding invitation in the most whimsical of fashions.
